Squirrel hunter Tavel here! Funny how life gets in the way of RunCation planning – both the Squirrel stuff and the actual important things like grocery shopping, laundry and long runs. I’m past due on Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend planning! But just in case you need to play catch up as well, or are planning for another race, here’s week two:
Week 2
Day 8- COSTUMES – So you picked your character last week, right? So, it’s time to figure out how to make that character runnable! Find one great idea and build a costume from that point, perhaps a tutu, off-the-shoulder tulle to mimic a ballgown, or super-cool accessory. Then, go shopping in your running drawer and see if you own anything that will work with that idea – you will appreciate having familiar running items miles in. I’ve got some super cute Sparkle Skirts, so a couple of those will be perfect launching points for my Minnie and Merida costumes.
Day 9- PARKS – Ticket buying decisions made, now it’s time to figure out a general touring plan. Are you eligible for FastPass+? Book those now. Take a look at park, show and parade hours, perhaps noting those in your Disney folder. It’s also time to personalize your Magic Band if you are eligible.
Day 10- DINING – Finish making those advance dining reservations! Didn’t get what you wanted the first time, check back. And check again.
Day 11- SHOPPING – Sure you are going to shop AT Disney, but you also get to shop BEFORE Disney! Think toiletries this week, picking up some travel-sized versions. I love finding a new shower gel/lotion scent during the Bath and Body Works sale, then saving it for the trip. You’ll associate that smell with your trip after you return. This year, Pink Jasmine and Blackberry Kiss will be my Princess scent – it is both pink and named after a princess!
Day 12- BACK HOME: Are you leaving a furry friend behind? Set up pet accommodations. My family is not traveling with me, but since I’m usually at home during the day, I need to ask a friend to look in on my beloved bulldog Herschel while my family is at school.
Day 13- PACKING: Grab a tote or carryon bag and find a home for it in your bedroom or closet. When you find something you know you will need for your trip, just throw it in the bag – it will make packing later that much easier. Right now, my bag has my Magic Band, my PassPorter travel guide, a travel-sized The Stick to roll away the pain, , a small container of Epsom salts and a new container of Nuun.
Day 14- MISC: Before you donate that too big hoodie to Goodwill, throw it in your Disney bag (see Day 13)! Disney races start crazy early, and it can be cold at 3 am while you are waiting for the bus. Disney collects these “throw-away” clothes and donates them. And if you don’t have anything to donate, time to hit up Goodwill.
