One of my favorite memories of our time at Scott AFB
was getting to go to the apple orchards….
And I still fondly remember road tripping with a girl friend
and five kids and finding a road side stand in Germany with bushels of apples…
That being said, I have a large arsenal of apple recipes…
even a few for the crock pot.
in the crock pot…
this was a concept that needed further investigation!
- 5-6 Apples, peeled and ‘chunked’
- 1 2/3 cup brown sugar – divided
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon – divided
- 2/3 cup oats
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 TBSP butter – softened
Mix apples, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon together, stirring until apples are well coated. Place in a small crock pot (mine is 4 quarts). In the same bowl, mix together oats, 2/3 cup brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 cup flour. Cut in butter until mixture is course. Add in vanilla. Pour (ok, more like dump) the oat mixture on top of the apples. Cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2 hours. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! And, I give you permission not to share!
