We don’t go to the movies often… lets face it, six people, movie prices and a wide range of ages and well, there is more pain than enjoyment. So, our Netflix subscription and amazon prime free movies have resulted in a lot of at home family movie nights. But, one of the best things about a trip to the theater is the goopy, greasy, buttery popcorn… well, it used to be, until we started experimenting with our own popcorn at home for these family movie nights! Sometimes they are very savory… but this one, this one is all about the sweet and the chocolate and the peanut butter… I mean, what’s not to love?
Chocolate Peanut Butter Popcorn
- 8 cups of cooked popcorn (I am anti microwave popcorn, so we have a whirly pop)
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 TBSP peanut butter
- 4-5 Reese’s Cups – chopped into bite sized pieces
Place the popcorn in a very large bowl and let cool slightly. Cut up the peanut butter cups (I find if you keep them in the fridge, it’s a bit easier. Melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter together. I usually put mine in a large bowl and microwave for 30 second increments, stirring until fully melted. Pour the chocolate peanut butter mixture over the popcorn, stirring it all in. I have found it’s best to pour a bit, mix, pour a bit, mix some more until it’s fully blended. Next stir in the chopped up Reese’s Cups. Cover a cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Spread popcorn chocolate mixture out on cookie sheet and allow to ‘harden’ a bit. I usually put mine in the fridge. Enjoy! I make this in the afternoon before a movie night, it’s not the best snack when you have an impromptu family movie night!
