Which are you? A peace keeper or a peace maker?
At first glance, it sounds like being a peace keeper wouldn’t be a bad thing… but let’s look at that a little closer and see why I would rather be a peace maker…
A peace keeper shuts up and shuts down. They hope everything will eventually shake out just fine… and are often disappointed and/or angry when it doesn’t.
A peace maker, on the other hand. makes hard, right choices. A peace maker doesn’t default to their natural inclinations. A peace maker sets the tone of the the situation. A peace maker embraces the fruits of the spirit… gentleness, firmness and calmness… a peace maker lets God’s spirit dwell in them.
I would like to say I am a peace maker, but if I am honest, a lot of days I am a peace keeper… it’s not what I want to be, I want to say that He dwells in me and I choose His way first, but yeah, I don’t … I often have to go through the keeping to the disappointment stage first before I slow down enough to make the hard right choices. My best efforts, my strongest desires, can not bring about the fruits of the spirit, the only thing that can do that is abiding in Him!
