My eldest is a voracious reader… I mean, like a book a day! She also loves to gift books, and haunt thrift stores. Well, recently she found this book, Dancing Through Life, at a local thrift store… and knowing me as well as she does, she snatched it up for me! Now, I feel I have to give you a little back story here…I watched Full House when I was younger, and rewatched it when my kiddos were younger (especially the one who is the book nerd! 🙂 ) But, when she stepped on to the stage of Dancing With the Stars and courageously wore her faith on her sleeve, well, I became a huge fan! I am one of the thousands of followers on Facebook and Instagram that she gained during this time. And, since I am being honest, the book sat on my nightstand in my “TBR” pile (learning the book lingo from my bookish kid – that means “to be read”). I finally picked it up a few nights ago and it was hard to put it down. It is a very easy read, almost like having a conversation with her. But what I loved the most about it was how open and honest she was and how she wove her faith through out the whole Dancing With the Stars experience. So, by now you are probably wondering what this book has to do with my bible and a mermaid. In the book, Candace goes pretty much week by week through her experience with Dancing With the Stars, and during one of the weeks the contestants were given a Disney song to dance to and Candace and her partner were given Under the Sea, from the movie The Little Mermaid. Given her outspoken nature regarding her faith, she knew that her costuming (a mermaid) was going to be controversial… and she turned to four faith mentors and scripture to help her determine her course of action. I am not going to give you all the details (I think you should go read the book) but, this page was inspired by her story. There are lots more nuggets of wisdom in this book, and as I drifted to sleep last night, there were several more ‘illustrations’ dancing through my mind!
